Trip Details
We float 80 miles of the Main Salmon, which cuts through one of the deepest gorges in North America and the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. The river carves through 6000' granite walls, forming spectacular whitewater, then settling into deep crystal pools. The forested slopes of the canyon are home to abundant wildlife such as deer, elk, moose, bighorn sheep, and black bears. Evidence of early pioneers, homesteaders, miners and dreamers still exists along this roadless country. Our trips begin in Boise, Idaho the day before the chosen launch date. Our guests stay at the Westcoast Parkcenter Suites that evening and meet with one of the Cascade Adventures' crew for a river orientation meeting, to receive personal dry bags and for information on getting to the river the following day. The next morning you will fly from Boise to the town of Salmon, Idaho and ride to the launch site, from there. At the end of the trip, you will be driven from the take out site to the airport in McCall and catch a flight back to Boise, arriving in the early evening.

-Meet and return to Salmon-If you will be traveling in eastern Idaho or in Montana or Wyoming, you may want to meet in Salmon and return there.-Arranging your own shuttle-Some groups may want to drive their own vehicles and do their own shuttles instead of the flights. Savings would vary, depending upon the size of the group and number of vehicles. Check with us.
A Note about Boats
You may chose among several different crafts to get you down the river. The easiest way is to hop on an oar boat, grab a strap and hang on while your guide rows you (and the gear) down river. If you are feeling more adventuresome you can grab a paddle and work as a team in a paddle boat, with your guide directing you through the fun. For the most adventuresome, an inflatable kayak, aka "duckie" is the way to go. You can commandeer your own little craft, either alone in a single or with a partner in a double. Experienced kayakers and canoeist are also welcome to join the fun in their crafts while our gear boats carry the load.
